University College Dublin lecturer awarded European teaching prize

A University College Dublin lecturer has been awarded one of Europe's top teaching prizes.

The twelfth annual European Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Social Sciences and Humanities was granted to Dr. Ernesto Vasquez del Aguila by the Central European University.

Dr. Vasquez del Aguila, an esteemed figure renowned for fostering inclusive education, hails from the UCD School of Social Policy, Social Work, and Social Justice. He has been honoured with the prestigious Diener Prize for his enduring dedication to recognising and addressing obstacles that hinder students from engaging in higher education.

Dr Vasquez del Aguila said: “I am so happy to receive this award that presents an honour and a responsibility. I believe that it is fundamental to conceive of our students as partners in the process of teaching and learning and to promote kindness, empathy and compassion as skills embedded in our educational practices."
