The Ministry for Education and Skills has formally established TU Dublin, Ireland’s largest higher education institute, on the 1st of January 2019. Technological University Dublin is the result of a merger between Ireland’s top technological institutes - Dublin Institute of Technology, Institute of Technology Tallaght and Institute of Technology Blanchardstown.
TU Dublin will be a multi-campus university with campuses in Grangegorman, Tallaght and Blanchardstown, with Grangegorman serving as the main campus. TU Dublin together has almost 28,000 students and 3,000 staff, the most for any Third Level Institution in Ireland, with leading academician, Professor David Fitzpatrick, appointed as the President.
Like Ireland, other European countries have also merged HEIs to constitute a larger university or technological institute as it helps in utilizing the collective strength and expertise of all merged universities.
